THAI STUDENT NEEDS HELP
December 9, 2011

My name is Sasikarn Chatvijit and I am a second year master's student in the Consumer, Apparel, and Retail program at the Bryan School of Business and Economics at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. My GPA is 3.63, and I am working on my thesis and look forward to graduating in May 2012. I am an international student from Thailand and currently have a financial obstacle that may cause me not be able to graduate on time.

Due to the historic floods in Thailand this year, my family lost their home. Because of the resulting financial hardship, it is not possible for my family to pay for the tuition of my final semester. My father has to use all of this money to secure the safety of my family by making sure my mom, brother, and grandparents have a place to live and enough food.

I am trying to find out what my options are to graduate. I spoke with my department and tuition refunds and waivers are not available for Masters Students this year. I have already applied for a partial scholarship with the Bryan School but this would not be enough to cover full out of state tuition. I do not believe I am eligible for loans because I am an international student.

I would like to ask for your advice on what other options are available. There is no Thai association in Greensboro. Therefore, I am writing this letter to seek a chance for financial aid in order to graduate. Any advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated. I have also included a reference who is a Thai professor that you can contact for more information.

Sincerely,

(ศศิกานต์ ฉัตรวิจิตร)

Kittichai (Tu) Watcharavesringkarn, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Co-Director of Graduate Studies of Department of Consumer, Apparel, and Retail Studies, University of North Carolina in Greensboro. Phone: 336.334.5614

If you think you can help, please contact the University at the above phone number.
